Drag Your Feet and Smile

O Israel, how can you say the LORD does not see your troubles?  How can you say God refuses to hear your case?  Have you never heard or understood?  Don’t you know that the LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth? He never grows faint or weary.  No one can measure the depths of his understanding.  He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak.  Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up.  But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength.  They will fly high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.

– Isaiah 40:27-31, NLT

Oftentimes life can have a drag-your-feet-and-keep-smiling quality to it: the sense that life has muddy spots, and the only solution is to keep trudging, a smile in tow.  For me, yesterday was one of those days.  Exhaustion caught up with me and some of my own, vulnerable strength became sapped.  On such days, it’s good to remember that while our own strength can fail us, God gives us wings.  He has the ability to gift power and strength of a supernatural kind, and understands our troubles.  More than that, He cares.  That fact alone is enough to go on when the going gets tough.  That’s also why it’s possible to keep smiling- but perhaps picking up one’s feet might help..  😉
